· THE SERIES: Trinity leads the series, 6-4, and has eliminated Arlington from the playoffs in each of the last two meetings. This will be the first meeting at the current Pennington Field, which opened in 1987.
· HOW THEY GOT HERE: Arlington finished in a tie for first in 4-5A, and is the top Division I seed from that district. Trinity was the district champion in 5-5A , and is the top Division I seed.
· PASSING ANOTHER TEST: Arlington High quarterback Matt Joeckel broke the Arlington ISD career passing record last week. Joeckel now has 6,678 yards in his career. Joeckel’s three touchdown passes last week give him 41 on the season, making him the first Arlington ISD player to ever throw 40 in a season. Joeckel now needs 144 yards to break the city’s single season record of 3,068 yards, held by ex-Arlington star Trent Fuller in 1992.
· AGAINST THE BEST: Arlington High was 2-2 against this year’s playoff teams, beating Lamar and Bowie and losing to Southlake Carroll and Martin. Trinity was 4-2, beating Keller, Colleyville Heritage, Grapevine and Bingham of West Jordan, Utah (who finished 13-1 this season and was Utah’s Class 5A State champion) and losing to Cedar Hill and Allen.
