·          THE SERIES: Martin leads the series, winning the only meeting, 39-7, in last year’s Division I area playoff game in San Angelo.
·          HOW THEY GOT HERE: Martin finished tied for first in 4-5A and is the top Division I seed from that district. San Angelo Central finished first in 2-5A, and is the top Division I seed.
·          TEN AGAIN: For the second consecutive year, Martin has won 10 games, equaling the school record. A win this week will give the Warriors 11 wins for the first time.
·          QUICK HICKS: Martin’s Kyle Hicks rushed for 210 yards last week against Midland, the third-highest playoff total in school history. J.E. McKissic holds the school (and AISD) playoff record with 273 yards against Mansfield in 1997, while older brother Dwight McKissic ran for 229 yards against Haltom in 1996.
·          AGAINST THE BEST: Martin was 2-1 against this year’s playoff teams, beating Bowie and Lamar, and losing to Arlington. San Angelo Central was 4-2, beating El Paso Franklin, Amarillo, Lubbock Monterey and Amarillo Tascosa, and losing to Abilene Cooper and Midland.

·          HOW THEY GOT HERE: Bowie tied for third in 4-5A and is the lower Division I seed from that district. El Paso Franklin finished first in 1-5A, and is the top Division I seed.
·          DOUBLE YOUR PLEASURE: Bowie is 3-0 in area playoff games, averaging 42.5 points per game in those three match-ups.
·          AGAINST THE BEST: Bowie was 2-3 against this year’s playoff teams, beating New Orleans Edna Karr (7-3, entering the Louisiana Class 4A playoffs this week) and Arlington and losing to Dallas Skyline, Martin and Lamar. ·          HOW THEY GOT HERE: Martin finished tied for first in 4-5A and is the top Division I seed from that district. Odessa finished tied for fourth in 3-5A, and is the lower Division I seed.
·          RECORD SETTING SEASON: In addition to making the playoffs for a school-record sixth consecutive year, Martin finished with its best-ever regular season record and can tie the school record for wins in a season (10) with a win Friday night. The Warriors won 10 games last season.
·          AGAINST THE BEST: Martin was 2-1 against this year’s playoff teams, beating Bowie and Lamar and losing to Arlington. Midland was 4-3, beating Amarillo, El Paso Del Valle, Lubbock Monterey and San Angelo Central and losing to Odessa Permian, Abilene and Abilene Cooper.

·          THE SERIES: The series is tied at 1-1, with Lamar winning, 34-28 in overtime in a 2000 regional final at Texas Stadium and Cooper taking a 41-6 Bi-District decision last year at Abilene’s Shotwell Stadium.
·          HOW THEY GOT HERE: Lamar finished tied for first in 4-5A and is the top Division II seed from that district. Abilene Cooper was second in 3-5A, and is the lower Division II seed.
·          IN THE AIR: Lamar quarterback Connor Berry has thrown 17 touchdown passes this season and is now two shy of the school record. The record is 19, set by Will Boyette last year.
·          AGAINST THE BEST: Lamar was 2-3 against this year’s playoff teams, beating Arlington and Bowie, and losing to Mansfield Timberview, Flower Mound Marcus and Martin. Abilene Cooper was 3-3, beating San Angelo Central, Odessa Permian and Midland and losing to Wichita Falls Rider, Austin Westlake and Abilene.

·          HOW THEY GOT HERE: Arlington tied for third in 4-5A, and is the lower Division II seed from that district. Abilene was the district champion in 3-5A, and is the top Division II seed.
·          RUSH HOUR: Last week, Arlington High’s Tavarrean Dickerson became the fourth player in Arlington ISD history to surpass 4,000 career rushing yards. Dickerson, who is the Colts’ all-time leading rusher, currently has 4,198 yards and needs 76 more to move past former Lamar standout Shawn Walters for third place on the AISD career list.
·          AGAINST THE BEST: Arlington High was 2-3 against this year’s playoff teams, beating Plano East and Martin and losing to Mansfield Timberview, Lamar and Bowie. Abilene was 4-3, beating Tulsa Booker T. Washington (4-5, entering Oklahoma’s Class 5A playoffs this week), Midland, Abilene Cooper and Odessa Permian and losing to Euless Trinity, Harlingen and Longview.

·          THE SERIES: This is the first meeting between Bowie and Odessa Permian.
·          HOW THEY GOT HERE: Bowie tied for third in 4-5A and is the lower Division I seed from that district. Odessa Permian finished third in 3-5A, and is the top Division I seed.
·          BUSINESS AS USUAL: This is the sixth consecutive year that Bowie has made the playoffs. The Volunteers are 3-2 in Bi-District games.
·          AGAINST THE BEST: Bowie was 2-3 against this year’s playoff teams, beating New Orleans Edna Karr (7-3, entering the Louisiana Class 4A playoffs this week) and Arlington and losing to Dallas Skyline, Martin and Lamar. Odessa Permian was 4-4 against this year’s playoff teams, beating Bethel (8-2, entering the Washington Class 4A playoffs), Amarillo Tascosa, Lubbock Monterey and Midland, while losing to Smithson Valley, Broken Arrow (9-1, entering the Oklahoma Class 6A playoffs), Abilene Cooper and Abilene.

Bowie Volunteers (6-3, 4-2) at Arlington Colts (6-3, 5-1)
·          THE SERIES: The Colts lead the series, 19-8, but Bowie has won four of the last five. Arlington also has a 2-1 edge at Cravens Field, although the teams haven’t played there since 1980.
·          LAST WEEK: Bowie routed Paschal, 63-7, while Arlington held off North Crowley, 42-35.
·          RUMBLING COLT: With more than 1,400 yards, Arlington High’s Tavarreon Dickerson leads the city in rushing. The last Colt to lead the city in rushing was Rashaud Finley in 2005.

·          THE SERIES: The Warriors lead the series, 8-0. This will be the first meeting at Scarborough-Handley Field.
·          LAST WEEK: Martin clinched its sixth consecutive playoff berth by thumping Weatherford, 57-7, while Paschal absorbed a 63-7 beating from Bowie.
·          MARCHING TO PAYDIRT: Martin’s Kyle Hicks leads the city with 126 points on 21 touchdowns. The last Martin played to lead the city in scoring was Jimmy Dixon in 1999.
·          ENDING IN STYLE: Martin has won its last regular season game three years in a row and 11 of the last 12. The only team to beat Martin in than span was Lamar, who edged the Warriors, 20-17, in 2007.
·          THE MISERY CONTINUES: Paschal has now lost 16 consecutive games, dating back to September 2010. The Panthers have lost 14 consecutive district games, going back to 2009.

·          SLOWING DOWN: Lamar has lost its last regular season game four of the last six years. Wins over Martin in 2007 and North Crowley last year were the only bright spots in that streak.
 
Sam Houston Texans (1-8, 1-5) at Weatherford Kangaroos (2-7, 1-5)
·          THE SERIES: The series is tied, 3-3-1, even though the Kangaroos haven’t beaten Sam Houston since 1988. The Texans have never won in Weatherford (0-2-1).
·          LAST WEEK: Sam Houston was shut out for the fourth time this season, with a 34-0 loss to Lamar. They can’t catch the city record of six, set by Arlington High in 1944 and 1947. Weatherford was smashed by Martin, 57-7.
·          ENDING ON A DOWNER: Sam Houston has lost its last regular season game six of the last seven years. The lone win was last year’s 54-25 result over Weatherford.
·          SPRINGING A LEAK: Sam Houston established yet another dubious record last week. The Texans have now allowed 458 points this season for a new AISD record. The previous mark was 424, set by the Texans two years ago.

·          THE SERIES: Seguin leads the series, winning the only meeting, 51-24, last year in Cleburne.
·          LAST WEEK: Seguin lost to Mansfield Summit, 35-18, while Cleburne was nosed out by Everman, 35-34.
·          TURNING IT AROUND: A year ago at this time, Cleburne was 1-8 and had allowed 40 points a game. A year later, the Yellowjackets are playing for a playoff spot. Both teams are still playoff eligible, but would need some help.
·          A LONG DROUGHT: Cleburne has not beaten an AISD team since 1977, when the ‘Jackets defeated Bowie, 20-14, at Wilemon Field. Cleburne is 8-15 all-time against Arlington schools.

Mansfield Summit Jaguars (8-1, 5-1) at Granbury Pirates (5-4, 4-2)
·          THE SERIES: The Jaguars lead the series, 5-0, including both previous meetings in Granbury.
·          LAST WEEK: District-champion Summit stopped Seguin, 35-18, while Granbury outscored Burleson, 46-27.
·          FASTEN YOUR SEATBELTS: Granbury can clinch a playoff berth with a win on Friday. If they lose, and Burleson and Cleburne both win, there will be a three-way tie for the final two playoff spots. And since the usual point-differential tie-breaker will not solve the problem, a coin toss will decide the playoff participants.
